专业概况

在这里学什么？

The MA in Applied Geography offers three options: a thesis or internship option requiring a minimum of 34 credit hours, including a maximum of 6 credits dedicated to thesis or internship work, or a portfolio option requiring a minimum of 37 credit hours plus completion of a significant project. The two non-thesis options result in a terminal degree.

The program leads to the acquisition of research skills and expertise appropriate to geographic analysis in a range of related fields including: Business site selection, environmental assessment, geographic techniques such as cartography, geographic information systems and remote sensing, transportation planning, as well as urban and regional development. Emphasis is placed in application of theoretical constructs in geography to solve real world problems at a variety of scales from the Triad and state to national and global issues.

The Master of Arts in Applied Geography has 3 program options: Thesis, Internship Project, or Non-Thesis.

Thesis

• 34 graduate credit hours, including GEO 601, GEO 620, and GEO 699
• One-half of all coursework (17 hours) at the 600 – 749 levels
• Comprehensive Exam
• Thesis
• Thesis Defense

Internship Research

• 34 graduate credit hours, including GEO 601, GEO 620, and GEO 695
• One-half of all coursework (17 hours) at the 600 – 749 levels
• Comprehensive Exam
• Internship Project
• Internship Presentation

Non-Thesis/Professional Portfolio

• 37 graduate credit hours, including GEO 601 and GEO 620
• One-half of all coursework (18 hours) at the 600 – 749 levels
• Comprehensive Exam
• Professional portfolio must be complied; this consists of a resume, personal statement, and two research papers (one traditional, one applied)

为来自中国的学生设计 All applicants must have obtained the following: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately-evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools; satisfactory academic standing as an undergraduate or in a post-baccalaureate program. Non-native speakers of English must validate proficiency in the English language by one of three means: TOEFL: 79 (paper-based 550); IELTS: 6.5 Band Score; PTE: 67; and ELS: 112.
