在这里学什么？ Our BSc Sociology and Media degree combines two vibrant subjects to provide students with a detailed knowledge of the way that societies and individuals understand, represent and communicate about themselves and how understanding such issues requires a thorough consideration of power, identity and diversity.By giving students the opportunity to study a broad, multidisciplinary curriculum which covers the main theories, concepts and practices of sociology and media studies, this degree teaches students to understand and explain the role of media and communication in the organisation of everyday life, social identities and belief systems. Our students learn to critically examine the prominent role played by media and digital communications in the representation of society and social life and to explore the way media and communication processes and institutions inform and influence public understandings of identity, diversity and inequality.By providing a thorough training in sociological theories and methods, students will learn to examine and explain complex social issues in relation to inequality, globalisation and social change. Students also explore the role played by the media in the way in which social issues are represented and discussed and learn about key developments in digital media, press, film, broadcasting and advertising. You will become adept at using classical and contemporary research and debates to explain some of the most pressing social and cultural issues.The combination of compulsory and optional modules give you a solid foundation in the key debates in sociology and media studies and allows you to specialise in particular areas that are most of interest to you including insights from social psychology and criminology. You will learn to apply these interdisciplinary perspectives to important and varied topics such as race, ethnicity and religion, gender and sexuality, leisure and consumption, digital technologies and health.Our BSc Sociology and Media degree offers a rich and supportive learning environment where teaching is based on lectures, seminars, workshops and tutorials allowing students to explore and debate current topics relevant to media, culture and society. Students are trained in core and advanced research methods and will become skilled independent researchers capable of gathering, analysing and evaluating quantitative and qualitative data.

为来自中国的学生设计 AAB (excluding General Studies, Critical Thinking, Communication and Culture and Citizenship Studies). In some circumstances we may ask applicants to achieve specific grades in certain subjects. While no specific A Level (or equivalent) subjects are required, we strongly prefer combinations drawn from traditional (academic) subjects to demonstrate a range of numerical, analytical and discursive abilities. These A Levels include: Ancient History, Biology, Classical Civilisation, Chemistry, Economics, English Language/Literature, Geography, Government and Politics, History, Languages (non-native), Law, Maths/Further Maths, Philosophy, Physics, Psychology, Religious Studies, Sociology and Statistics.
