Location has long been a buzzword and the global property markets always attract attention. If you're looking to move your career into property, this dedicated postgraduate course provides an excellent working knowledge of commercial property and developments, with relevance to national and international markets.

It is no surprise that many graduates and professionals seek careers in property. With global relevance and rewarding returns, property and real-estate management can provide exciting career paths. Accredited by the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), with exemption from their academic entry requirements, this postgraduate degree is ideal for graduates and professionals from a broad range of backgrounds to build relevant knowledge and skills.

During your studies, you'll be equipped to value and manage urban land and buildings in both public and private ownership. You'll consider the environmental considerations of development and management, and examine digital technology driving change. You'll become professionally competent in applying advanced investment and appraisal techniques, and learn how to make sound property management decisions that take into account legal, economic, facilities management and planning variables.

You will:

• Learn about the workings of the commercial property market and its relevance to national and international financial and investment markets
• Study advanced current investment and appraisal techniques
• Gain an understanding of legal, economic, planning, technical and facilities management factors in property management decision making
• Understand the environmental considerations of real estate development and management

TEACHING

Campus-based teaching and learning will develop your knowledge and skills through a blend of theoretical, collaborative and practical methods, including:

• Lectures and tutorials
• Project work
• Directed study
• One-to-one tutorials (by appointment)

Typically, lectures will introduce the core module knowledge with tutorials designed to provide a forum for tutor-led discussion and debate. Project work is your chance to conduct research and other techniques that will help you to develop solutions to prescribed tasks.

EMPLOYMENT

You’ll be well-placed to find rewarding work in the corporate property industry. You can apply the skills you’ll learn to act for clients on the purchase, letting, management and sale of all types of urban property, including shops, offices and industrial premises. There are also opportunities in corporate sectors, working with organisations such as insurance companies, pension funds, property companies, multiple retailers and other major trading companies. Some local authorities and central government departments also maintain an 'in-house' team of property professionals.

Course graduates are highly-regarded by employers and many alumni have progressed to work in corporate, financial, government and private sectors to create property, investment and business solutions. Typical roles taken include commercial estate agency, investment appraisal, property finance, development appraisal, property valuation, property management, strategic corporate real estate management and rating and taxation matters.

This course is extensively informed by collaboration between the university’s academics and industry partners from the built environment. Our experienced teaching team maintain strong links with the architecture, engineering and construction sectors, both local and international.

Students can also exit with PGDip and PGCert award.

为来自中国的学生设计 Applicants who have completed a bachelor’s degree from a reputable Chinese university with a GPA of 2.4/4.0 or a final grade of 60% or above will be considered for postgraduate study. Applicants who have completed a higher education self study graduation certificate (zi’kao) with a final grade of 70% or above, and at least two years of relevant work experience, will be considered for postgraduate study. We require IELTS 6.5 (with a minimum 5.5 in each component) or equivalent.
