专业概况

The Master of Public Health in Community Health Education (MPH) is a professional preparation program for students interested in careers that involve the development and management of population-based health promotion and disease prevention activities within communities. In the program students receive academic preparation in the traditional public health fields of epidemiology, statistics, environmental health, health policy with course work and field-based experiences emphasizing the development of practitioner competencies. The degree program prepares graduates for careers in public health and health care settings at local, state, regional, or national level.

Our MPH curriculum is accredited by the Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) and the professional requirements are based on the recommendations of the Joint Commission of the Society of Public Health Education and the American Association for Health Education. Graduates of the program are eligible to sit for the national credentialing exam for the profession and become a Master’s Certified Health Education Specialist. By the end of the program students will have preparation in the Core Areas of Public Health (biostatistics, epidemiology, environmental health sciences, health administration, and social and behavioral sciences) and in the Seven Areas of Responsibility for Health Education Specialists (assessment, program planning, implementation, evaluation, administration and management, resource, and communication and advocacy).

The MPH program requires 45 semester hours of specified, sequential courses including an internship. Admitted students begin the program in the fall semester. All required courses are offered in the evenings and meet once each week. Required meetings and departmental symposium may occur during the day – these schedules will be available at the beginning of the semester to allow for planning with work obligations. Full-time students take four courses each semester over two years. Part-time students enroll for three years, including two summers, and take two courses each semester.

为来自中国的学生设计 All applicants must have obtained the following: A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university or appropriately-evaluated credentials for non-U.S. schools; satisfactory academic standing as an undergraduate or in a post-baccalaureate program. Non-native speakers of English must validate proficiency in the English language by one of three means: TOEFL: 79 (paper-based 550); IELTS: 6.5 Band Score; PTE: 67; and ELS: 112.
