Objectives

• Appreciate all aspects of business whilst being able to communicate well across all platforms to different audiences in an evolving business environment
• Introduce and develop a breadth of knowledge in a wide range of business, marketing and communications topics
• Explore the issues and practices around communications and marketing that businesses today are facing
• Build a portfolio of demonstrable skills through an extended placement to prepare for or develop your career
• Develop research skills and critical thinking through debates and discussions

This programme is designed for local polytechnic diploma holders with an average Grade B who wish to pursue a degree in broad-based management degree with a specialism in Communications and to obtain industry experience and professionalism valued by employers.

An SIM Preparatory Course in Business is available for non-business related diploma holders.

This programme is developed from the flagship BSc (Hons) Business Management with Communications programme and the highly successful Year in Industry pathway. It responds to the need for technology driven business relationship management, marketing communications and the high value employers place on both industry experience and professionalism.

Students will build knowledge to understand Business, Marketing and Communications, and be equipped with a portfolio of demonstrable skills through an extended placement of 36 weeks.

The Industry Placement

There will be a compulsory preparatory programme on personal and professional development. You will be coached by Birmingham career professionals on how to source internship placement to give you an edge over your future job search. Students learning on the placement will be assessed by the University.

International students will need to complete the industry placement in their home country or any other countries.

For industry placement overseas, there will be additional costs over and above the programme fee to cover travel, accommodation and living expenses

Birmingham’s business degrees have long been recognised by major employees across all sectors of the economy. The programme is continuously updated to reflect the latest thinking in business education, providing rigorous academic training with practical relevance, and enables you to build a portfolio of demonstrable skills through an extended industry placement.

Graduates are exposed to job opportunities such as in global public relations, marketing, corporate communications, event management, video production, social media and consultancy based companies.

CMI Professional Accreditation

SIM-Birmingham students upon graduation will receive an additional CMI Level 5 Diploma professional qualification in Management and Leadership. This qualification is a recognition of graduates’ key skills and competencies as future effective managers. With one-year free CMI membership post graduation, graduates will be another step closer towards achieving the Chartered Manager status.

Opportunity for Postgraduate Study

Graduates may further their studies to attain higher qualifications from universities around the world upon completion of this programme.

To pursue a Master’s qualification with University of Birmingham, you will require at least an upper second class award. The University of Birmingham currently offers a suite of postgraduate taught programmes in SIM.

为来自中国的学生设计 Students must have three GCE 'A' Level passes or minimum of 3 H2 level subjects with a pass or above. Advanced 1 – 16 Modules: An RMIT approved non-business diploma from any of the local polytechnics. Advanced 2 – 12 Modules: An RMIT approved relevant business diploma from SIM or any of the local polytechnics. Other qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis by the university. English Language Requirements: Applicants who have not achieved a minimum of C or better in General Paper at AS/H1 Level or Knowledge and Inquiry at H2 must provide evidence of at least ONE of the following: IELTS (Academic) - 6.5 (no band less than 6.0); TOEFL - Paper-Based = 580 (TWE 4.5); TOEFL - internet-Based Test (iBT) = 92, with minimum of 20 in all sections; Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE(A) = 58 (no communication band less than 50); Cambridge English: (Advanced CAE) (up to 2014) = 58 with no less than 'borderline' in each skill; Cambridge English: (Advanced CAE) 2015 onwards: 176 with no less than 169 in any component; RMIT English Worldwide (REW) Advanced Plus or equivalent; Successful completion of a recognized approved Diploma qualification or higher, where the language of instruction was English. Have successfully studied Singapore Cambridge 'A' levels at a Singaporean high school for at least 2 years and met the academic entry criteria of 3 A/H2 level passes. Other equivalent qualifications approved by RMIT will be considered.
