专业概况

The course has been designed to develop your skills and to prepare you for entry onto the first year of your chosen course. It provides a balance between content related to your chosen subject and the range of wider skills required for undergraduate study. This is an integrated four-year degree, with the foundation year as a key part of the course. You will be required to pass the foundation year in order to progress to the first year of your chosen degree.

The English Language and Teaching English as a Foreign Language BA (Hons) degree combines language description, theory, practice and real-life experience – an ideal grounding for most graduate futures, whether you choose a teaching career or not. English Language Teaching is a £2.5b global industry that offers rewarding and fulfilling careers at home and abroad. This degree explores how English works, how it is used and how it is learnt, gradually becoming more in-depth and focused. Lesson planning, materials development and class management develop communication and teaching skills, culminating in supervised teaching practice.

Many graduates become teachers; others use their analytical and communication skills to follow other careers. As this degree incorporates a professional TEFL qualification, successful graduates can immediately apply for TEFL posts at home and abroad. If a primary or secondary teaching career beckons, your training and experience is directly relevant, giving you significant advantages in the competitive PGCE application process.
